Online Relationships?

Recently, I've been hearing more and more how online dating and relationships are becoming more precedent and common. This is bothersome to me.

Yet, with the internet and online-socialization becoming more common-place, are online relationships bound to occur more and more?

My best friend's brother has had several, none of which succeeded. Yet, I have heard of some being successful, and there HAVE been couples that wouldn't have met unless it was through the internet.

What do you all think of this?

I don't think meeting people online is as taboo as it once was. I think people are often embarrassed. One of my friends met her boyfriend online and they've been together for a year. However they told their family members they met on the train.

I mean, is it really that much worse than meeting someone in a bar?

Agreed. My dad and his girlfriend have been together for 8 yrs and they met online. They're geezers, too, which is what makes it sort of cooler in a way. Probably as a result of this, I am not skeptical of online dating. It seems easier than real life. I mean, with online, you can join a dating site and when you talk to someone, there's no need t play it cool as much as in real life because both paties know whay you're on the site...so they know why they're talking to each other. It seems that in many ways, you can usurp the inhibitory constraints of real world awkwardness. I also say there are no less creeps on the internet than in real life.

I know a lot of people (friends and family) who developed successful relationships and marriages from meeting online. I guess it's better than some alternatives.
